This book has been on my “to read” list for a long time now. I’d say I’ve wanted to read this book since I was in 9th grade and I watched the movie for the first time. I bought the hardcover on half.com but ended up reading the majority of the book on my Sony E-reader. I finished it on my honeymoon by the pool and as most would agree I found the book to be a lot better than the movie.

(SPOILER ALERT) However I’m hard pressed to convince Jenn since she’s hung up on the fact that “After all that, it’s just a friggin’ spider!”. (/SPOILER ALERT)

Oh well. It’s classic Stephen King, wordier than it needed to be, but a great story none the less.

I have been wanting to cut plastic grocery bags out of my life for awhile now. However there have been a few hang ups that had prevented me from doing so:

1. Laziness\Lack of Thought – Other than when I have a cart full of food, or I’m unloading the groceries from the car, grocery bags really don’t cross your mind. Whenever I had few enough items to carry by hand, I’d tell the cashier no bag. This worked fairly well in those instances other than sometimes looking a bit silly with my arms full or getting harassed on my way out of the store because I look like I might be stealing the items.

2. Lack of decent alternative – I didn’t want to be carrying a backpack or gym bag full of groceries around.

3. Stigma – You would come off a little hippy or strange bringing your own bags to the grocery store with you.

Lately however all of those issues have been addressed. Being “green” is now in vogue. You’re no longer viewed negatively for wanting to help the environment. Most big box and grocery stores are offering low cost, environmentally friendly bags emblazoned with their logo.

I’ve purchased enough for my weekly shopping routine and keep them in the trunk of my car. I’m still adjusting to the new habit of actually grabbing the bags before entering the store, but I have not used a single disposable grocery bag since May 9th, 2010. It’s a start. I’ll update this post if I falter but this is an adjustment I do not think I’ll have a problem keeping.

2. I won’t ride to work because after an hour on the sport bike my back is killing me and I’m numb from the vibrations.

3. I don’t have the cash to buy a new bike until I sell the ZX6R so this $500 steal will do nicely until then.

I picked this book up right after I finished the first 3 Twilight books because I wanted to feel like an adult again and I was still on a vampire kick. The movie received a number of awards worldwide and after reading some reviews the book seemed like it’d be a worthwhile read. It was.

The story takes place in Stockholm Sweden so I found some of the names and as a result some of the lesser character development hard to follow. The book is fairly graphic and deals with some rather disturbing subject matter if you really think about it but somehow it manages to spin it in away that makes it ok in your mind.

Wait, you thought I was a guy? Well… you’re right, I am. Why would I read this crap? Because a number of people said I should. Why did I post about it? Because if you can get over the fact that the series was written for an intended audience of high school teenage girls, the underlying concept is actually pretty awesome. Vampires hunting people, vampires fighting vampires, werewolves fighting vampires, centered around a hot female main character who wants nothing more than for Edward to take her in everyway imaginable. Good stuff. We just need to have someone re-write this for the 18-45 male audience and we’d have a winner. I enjoyed the first 3 books, but not enough to read the last one… yet.
